History

It was the ambitions of Kristine Ejercito and Michelle Endo that created Irvine alpha Kappa Delta Phi. By presenting the idea of a new asian sorority to various friends and acquaintances on the highly Asian populated campus of UC Irvine, the charter class was comprised of Caren Regalado, Gina Hong, Glenda Miao, Kristine Nogawa, Laryna Herolaga, Susan Lee, Jennifer Marzan, and Cherrie Sinson. On October 3, 1994, UC Irvine aKDPhi was granted its charter by alpha Kappa Delta Phi's National Board.

In 1998, UC Irvine gained acknowledgement as an Associate Chapter of alpha Kappa Delta Phi. At the 1999 KDPhi National Convention, after much hard work, time, and sacrifice, the ladies at UC Irvine were designated KAPPA CHAPTER of the largest and only Nationwide Asian American interest sorority in the nation.

As the Kappa Chapter of alpha Kappa Delta Phi, UC Irvine has had the pleasure of being awarded various prestigious and coveted awards. Two years in a row, Irvine aKDPhi has received a UC Irvine Greek Award - the Aldrich Award for Excellence in Community Service and the Chapter Management for Excellence in Preparation and Organization of a chapter. Irvine also takes joy in hosting an annual Breast Cancer Forum and annual Bingo for Breast Cancer, in an effort to help its national philanthropy, donating all proceeds to the Susan G. Komen Foundation. Irvine has also had the opportunity to take part in many events both in the university and community. Such events include Orange County's Walk for the Cure for Breast Cancer, AIDS Walk, AGI Forum, APSA High School Outreach, APAAC, Wayzgoose, Homecoming, APSA Jam, and much much more.

Irvine continues to preserve its strong traditions of scholarship, leadership, the promotion of Asian awareness in the university and community, and most of all sisterhood. The ladies of Irvine alpha Kappa Delta Phi take much pride in the internal strength of their sisterhood and put forth all their efforts and dedication in making Irvine aKDPhi the outstanding organization it is today.
