National Philanthropy
This year, more than 211,300 women in the United States will learn for the first time that they have breast cancer, and more than 39,800 women will lose their lives. Breast cancer is the most frequently diagnosed cancer in women in America; however, early detection and prompt treatment can significantly reduce the suffering and deaths caused by this disease. alpha Kappa Delta Phi, the largest nationwide Asian-American interest sorority, proudly promotes our National Philanthropy - Breast Cancer Awareness, a project which is dedicated to increasing public knowledge about the early detection of breast cancer. The mission of alpha Kappa Delta Phi's Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign is three-fold:
- To raise funds on a national level to contribute to a non-profit organization dedicated to eradicating breast cancer through the sale of the popular Pink Ribbon pins
- To dedicate at least one Service Event per chapter/colony to Breast Cancer Awareness in October 2004
- To develop a comprehensive page on our national website that provides links to breast cancer resources
